Auxiliary Reception (Recreation Centre) – On-Call (Part-Time)

The Town of Watson Lake is seeking friendly, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to join our Parks and Recreation team as Auxiliary Reception staff at the Watson Lake Recreation Centre.

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, Reception is the welcoming face of the Recreation Centre and supports the effective operation of the Recreation Department through efficient and accurate front-desk and office duties. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public and helping create a positive experience for everyone who uses the facility.

About the Role:
Auxiliary Reception staff provide excellent customer service and support day-to-day operations at the Recreation Centre, including:

  • Assisting the public with general inquiries and recreation facility bookings
  • Monitoring patrons using the Recreation Centre facilities
  • Handling cash and completing facility and equipment rental forms
  • Conducting set-up and take-down for booking rentals and events
  • Preparing correspondence and advertisements
  • Maintaining an efficient filing system
  • Assisting with janitorial duties, as directed
  • Other recreation-related duties as directed by the Director of Community Services

 

What You Bring:
Qualifications and experience include:

  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word
  • Experience in an office setting, recreation facility, or front desk role (an asset)
  • Ability to take direction (written and verbal)
  • Strong cash handling skills
  • Reliable, honest, and energetic

Additional Information:

Water Treatment Operator I – Full-Time, Permanent

The Town of Watson Lake is seeking a dedicated and dependable Water Treatment Operator I to join our Utilities team in a full-time, permanent role.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Water Treatment Operator II, the Water Treatment Operator I is responsible for supporting the treatment and distribution of municipal drinking water, sanitary sewer systems, and the district heating system. This role also supports the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of water, sewer, street, and drainage facilities and systems, and includes rotational on-call and standby duties.

  • Operating the water treatment plant under the supervision of a Level II Water Operator
  • Operating and performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance on the water treatment facility, supply wells, distribution system, booster pumping station, reservoir, meters, roadside drainage systems, sanitary sewer systems, and the district heating system
  • Maintaining records related to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, water consumption, and related operational data in accordance with standard procedures and environmental regulations
  • Assisting with the scheduling and maintenance of operational and construction activities designed to provide quality water, sewer, and drainage services for the Town
  • Operating all equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with applicable bylaws, policies, and procedures
  • Performing daily safety and maintenance checks and cleaning equipment as scheduled or required
  • Participating in routine maintenance and clean-up of the Water Treatment Facility
  • Responding to residents and members of the public in a courteous and respectful manner and reporting complaints or service concerns to the supervisor
  • Ensuring Occupational Health and Safety standards are implemented and followed for equipment operations and public works facilities
  • Monitoring subordinate staff for compliance with safe work practices
  • Participating in professional development as required to meet the needs of the position and the organization

 

What You Bring:
Minimum qualifications and experience include:

  • Minimum Grade 12 high school education
  • EOCP Water Distribution Level I certification
  • Considerable experience in water system operations and maintenance
  • Experience in wastewater system operations is considered an asset
  • Valid Class 3 Driver’s License, or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment
  • WHMIS and Confined Space Entry certifications, or willingness to obtain
  • Standard First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of SCADA is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and procedures
  • Strong work ethic, honesty, and reliability
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Aquatics Leader – Seasonal (May–August/September)

The Town of Watson Lake is seeking an energetic, safety-focused, and motivated Aquatics Leader to join our Parks and Recreation team for the summer season.

The Aquatics Leader is responsible for helping create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable swimming environment for all patrons while leading and supervising the aquatics team. Aquatic programs are offered at the Dennis Ball Swimming Pool and Lucky Lake Recreational Area, and include lane swim, swimming lessons, aquafit, public swim, family swim, and the Lucky Lake Waterslide.

About the Role:

Reporting through the Parks and Recreation Department, the Aquatics Leader plays a key role in overseeing aquatic programming and day-to-day operations, including:

  • Overseeing the daily operations of the pool and Lucky Lake waterslide
  • Developing, promoting, and advertising aquatic programs and facilities
  • Assisting with the hiring, training, and supervision of aquatic staff
  • Maintaining a high level of safety supervision and competently administering emergency procedures when required
  • Maintaining standards set out by the Red Cross and/or Lifesaving Society, as well as Town of Watson Lake policies
  • Performing daily maintenance and cleaning duties, including pool chemistry checks and cleaning of the pool, change rooms, and deck areas
  • Carrying out administrative duties such as staff scheduling, program coordination, and cash management
  • Performing daily safety and preventative maintenance checks and reporting hazardous situations to the Recreation Manager

About the Role:

The Northern Lights Centre Operations Supervisor helps support the day-to-day operation of the facility while leading staff and assisting with visitor services, including:

  • Creating the Northern Lights Centre staff schedule and ensuring all shifts are covered for a 7-day-per-week schedule
  • Operating the cash register, receiving and handling cash, and completing end-of-day cash-out duties

Flower and Parks Caretaker – Seasonal Term (15–18 Weeks, Starting Approximately Mid-May)

The Town of Watson Lake is seeking an enthusiastic, dependable, and community-minded Flower and Parks Caretaker to join our Parks and Recreation team for the spring and summer season.

This position plays an important role in helping keep Watson Lake beautiful, welcoming, and well maintained. The Flower and Parks Caretaker is responsible for the preparation, planting, and upkeep of municipal flower baskets, flower beds, shrubs, and trees located throughout Town facilities, parks, greenspaces, and along the highway corridor, while also supporting general parks and recreation maintenance duties.

About the Role:

The Flower and Parks Caretaker supports seasonal beautification and upkeep efforts across the community, including:

  • Conditioning, preparing, and maintaining soil and mulch for planting
  • Creating planting plans to ensure flowers, plants, and shrubs are suitable for the local climate while enhancing outdoor community spaces
  • Planting, monitoring, and caring for flowers, trees, and shrubs at Wye Lake Park
  • Planting, monitoring, and caring for Town of Watson Lake flower beds and hanging baskets
  • Watering flower beds and hanging baskets daily, or as needed

The role also provides support to broader Parks and Recreation operations, including:

  • General clean-up and litter control in public areas throughout Watson Lake

Additional Information:

This is a seasonal term position of approximately 15 to 18 weeks, starting in mid-May, with up to 40 hours per week. The pay range is $23.20 to $25.35 per hour, depending on experience.

This is a unionized position. The successful candidate must be flexible to accommodate early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.

The successful candidate is required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check prior to their start date.

Recycling Attendant – Full-Time Term (May–October)

The Town of Watson Lake is seeking a dependable, safety-minded, and customer-focused Recycling Attendant to join our Solid Waste & Recycling team for the season.

Working under the direction of the Solid Waste Coordinator, the Recycling Attendant helps support the daily operation and maintenance of the Recycling Depot. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, takes pride in keeping a worksite organized, and is committed to helping the community recycle safely and effectively.

About the Role:

The Recycling Attendant plays an important role in helping maintain an efficient and well-run depot while assisting residents with proper recycling practices, including:

  • Accepting recycled materials from the public, counting and issuing payment to customers, and ensuring all material is recorded accurately
  • Sorting, counting, and preparing recyclable material for shipping
  • Keeping the depot and yard organized and tidy and ensuring work and public areas are maintained in a safe condition
  • Responsibly handling the cash float
  • Informing customers of proper sorting techniques for recyclable materials and the various items accepted at the depot
  • Assisting with clean-up and maintenance of the landfill area
  • Ensuring proper procedures are followed and depot paperwork is completed accurately
  • Assisting with monitoring and verifying compliance of loads entering the landfill
  • Performing other duties as required

Additional Information:

This is a full-time term position running from May to October, with 40 hours per week. The pay range is $23.20 to $25.35 per hour, depending on experience.

This position involves working with a wide variety of customers and the handling of heavy, often dirty materials in a noisy environment. Some duties involve outdoor work and may occur in poor weather conditions.

The Town of Watson Lake is unionized. The successful candidate will be obligated to become a union member under the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
