Recreation Programmer Assistant/Receptionist – Full-Time, Permanent

The Town of Watson Lake is seeking a dynamic, energetic, positive, and creative Recreation Programmer Assistant/Receptionist to join our Parks and Recreation team.

The successful candidate will be the welcoming face of the Recreation Centre while also supporting the planning and delivery of fun, safe, and inclusive recreation programming.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Recreation Programmer for programming duties and the Director of Community Services for reception duties, the Recreation Programmer Assistant/Receptionist supports both front-line customer service and recreation programming, including:

  • Assisting the Recreation Programmer in the planning and delivery of community-based sport, culture, and recreation programs for all ages
  • Assisting in coordinating special events, including facility bookings and set-up/take-down
  • Helping ensure the safety of participants and mitigating risk during recreational activities
  • Providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for all
  • Assisting with the promotion of programs, facilities, committees, and working groups, as assigned
  • Working in conjunction with the Recreation Programmer and providing updates on attendance, program development, and any concerns or issues
  • Ensuring participant registrations and records are completed accurately, maintained, and kept confidential
  • Assisting the public with general inquiries and recreation facility bookings
  • Monitoring patrons using the Recreation Centre facilities
  • Handling cash and completing facility and equipment rental forms and system updates
  • Preparing correspondence and advertisements
  • Maintaining an efficient filing system

 

What You Bring:

Qualifications and experience include:

  • Experience in the recreation field, special event planning, or summer camp coordination
  • High degree of initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to motivate participants
  • Microsoft Office computer skills, Canva skills, and the ability to learn new software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Past volunteer experience is considered an asset
  • Standard First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence is considered an asset

 

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, permanent, unionized position based on a 40-hour work week. This hybrid role requires a flexible schedule to accommodate daytime, evening, weekend, and occasional holiday events and activities.
The successful candidate is required to provide a criminal record and vulnerable sector check prior to their start date.
The successful applicant must hold or be willing to obtain Standard First Aid certification.

Auxiliary Reception (Recreation Centre) – On-Call (Part-Time)

The Town of Watson Lake is seeking friendly, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to join our Parks and Recreation team as Auxiliary Reception staff at the Watson Lake Recreation Centre.

Reporting to the Director of Community Services, Reception is the welcoming face of the Recreation Centre and supports the effective operation of the Recreation Department through efficient and accurate front-desk and office duties. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public and helping create a positive experience for everyone who uses the facility.

About the Role:
Auxiliary Reception staff provide excellent customer service and support day-to-day operations at the Recreation Centre, including:

  • Assisting the public with general inquiries and recreation facility bookings
  • Monitoring patrons using the Recreation Centre facilities
  • Handling cash and completing facility and equipment rental forms
  • Conducting set-up and take-down for booking rentals and events
  • Preparing correspondence and advertisements
  • Maintaining an efficient filing system
  • Assisting with janitorial duties, as directed
  • Other recreation-related duties as directed by the Director of Community Services

 

What You Bring:
Qualifications and experience include:

  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word
  • Experience in an office setting, recreation facility, or front desk role (an asset)
  • Ability to take direction (written and verbal)
  • Strong cash handling skills
  • Reliable, honest, and energetic
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain Standard First Aid certification

 

Additional Information:
This is a unionized position. Hours are on an as-needed/on-call basis with no guaranteed hours. The successful candidate must be available for a flexible schedule to accommodate evening, weekend, and holiday programming and activities.
The successful candidate is required to supply a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check prior to their start date.
