Full-Time Firefighter, (3-year term)
The Town of Watson Lake is seeking a dedicated and team-oriented Full-Time Firefighter to join the Watson Lake Fire Department on a three-year term.
The Watson Lake Fire Department is a growing, community-focused service consisting of one full-time Fire Chief and 22 dedicated volunteer firefighters, with continued expansion planned. The department provides fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical assistance within the community, surrounding rural areas, and along more than 1,000 km of highway. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about public safety, teamwork, and serving a northern community where your skills truly make a difference.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Director of Protective Services (Fire Chief), the Full-Time Firefighter plays a key role in emergency response and public safety operations, including:

Responding to structural and wildland fires, motor vehicle collisions, and emergency incidents

Assisting EMS during medical emergencies
-
Performing search and rescue, forcible entry, ventilation, water supply operations, and scene support

Supporting fire safety inspections, public education, and pre-incident planning
-
Maintaining apparatus, equipment, tools, and station facilities
-
Participating in regular training and professional development

Leading small teams or assigned tasks when required
What you Bring:
Required Qualifications Include:

NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level I & II (IFSAC or ProBoard)
-
NFPA 1002 Apparatus Driver/Operator
-
Intermediate First Aid, CPR Level C, and AED
-
Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement
-
Grade 12 or equivalent
-
Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
-
Ability to meet the physical demands of firefighting
-
Clean Driver’s Abstract and Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check
Preferred Qualifications Include:

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
-
Technical rescue training (auto extrication, confined space, etc.)

Experience operating heavy or commercial vehicles

Previous firefighting experience (volunteer, structural, wildland, industrial, or military)

Full-Time, Permanent, Equipment Operator II
The Town of Watson Lake is seeking a skilled and safety-minded Equipment Operator II to join our Public Works team in a full-time, permanent capacity.
About the Role:
As an Equipment Operator II, you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving municipal infrastructure that keeps the community moving year-round. Reporting to the Public Works Supervisor, you will safely operate heavy equipment and support roadway, facility, and grounds maintenance across the community.
Key Responsibilities:

Operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, graders, plow trucks, skid-steers, and single-axle trucks
-
Maintain roadways and other municipal infrastructure as directed
-
Perform daily safety inspections, cleaning, and basic maintenance on equipment and fleet vehicles
-
Assist with cemetery grounds maintenance and preparation of gravesites, as required
-
Participate in routine shop maintenance and cleanup
-
Assist with inventory maintenance and tracking
-
Respond to public inquiries and complaints, reporting issues to the supervisor
-
Follow all workplace safety standards and best practices
-
Participate in required training and professional development
What You Bring:

Valid Class 3 Driver’s License
-
Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate or a minimum of 5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment
-
Experience with equipment inspections and general maintenance
-
Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and safe equipment operation
-
Experience with road construction and maintenance techniques
-
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
-
Strong communication skills
-
Standard First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
-
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
-
Willingness to work in a noisy, physically demanding environment
Working Conditions:

Auxiliary Reception (Recreation Centre) – On-Call (Part-Time)
The Town of Watson Lake is seeking friendly, reliable, and customer-focused individuals to join our Parks and Recreation team as Auxiliary Reception staff at the Watson Lake Recreation Centre.
Reporting to the Director of Community Services, Reception is the welcoming face of the Recreation Centre and supports the effective operation of the Recreation Department through efficient and accurate front-desk and office duties. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public and helping create a positive experience for everyone who uses the facility.
About the Role:
Auxiliary Reception staff provide excellent customer service and support day-to-day operations at the Recreation Centre, including:
- Assisting the public with general inquiries and recreation facility bookings
- Monitoring patrons using the Recreation Centre facilities
- Handling cash and completing facility and equipment rental forms
- Conducting set-up and take-down for booking rentals and events
- Preparing correspondence and advertisements
- Maintaining an efficient filing system
- Assisting with janitorial duties, as directed
- Other recreation-related duties as directed by the Director of Community Services
What You Bring:
Qualifications and experience include:
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word
- Experience in an office setting, recreation facility, or front desk role (an asset)
- Ability to take direction (written and verbal)
- Strong cash handling skills
- Reliable, honest, and energetic
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must hold or be willing to obtain Standard First Aid certification
Additional Information:
This is a unionized position. Hours are on an as-needed/on-call basis with no guaranteed hours. The successful candidate must be available for a flexible schedule to accommodate evening, weekend, and holiday programming and activities.
The successful candidate is required to supply a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check prior to their start date.
