Free Green Debris Disposal for Watson Lake Residents – August 13 to November 30

With support from the Government of Yukon through FireSmart funding, the Town of Watson Lake is offering free disposal of eligible green debris for Watson Lake residents from August 13 to November 30, 2026.

The Green Debris Disposal Program for Watson Lake Residents is intended to make it easier for residents to clean up wood debris around their properties while supporting local FireSmart efforts. During the program period, residents can bring clean, untreated wood debris from their residential properties to the Watson Lake Landfill and Recycling Centre for disposal at no cost.

Removing brush, branches and other woody material from around homes and properties can help reduce available wildfire fuels and contribute to a more FireSmart community.

What can be brought in?

The program is for clean, untreated natural wood debris from residential properties, including:

• Brush
• Branches
• Trees and tree sections
• Stumps
• Other similar clean, untreated woody debris

What is not eligible?

Construction wood and commercial woody debris are not eligible for free disposal under this program.

This includes wood and woody materials generated through construction activities, as well as debris generated through commercial operations.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the program while completing yard cleanup, property maintenance and FireSmart work around their homes.
